Update below on 11:55 AM!
Due to the current covid-19 situation, some observers were worried that the game between Kuwait and Lebanon might be cancelled. The issue concerns the airport of Kuwait. Will they allow Lebanese players and coaching staff to come?
Recently a a positive sign was given. On January 4, Kuwait national team coach, The Spanish Andres Carasco, have called-up 27 players for the game against Lebanon which will take place on January 9 in Kuwait. The Anabi tanked 148th in the FiFA rankings has a huge opportunity to qualify for the third round of the joint qualifiers 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
The Cedars, ranked 92th, have lost precious points against DPR Korea but the hope is still present.
The game is not during the FIFA days, therefore Lebanon will miss important starters playing abroad like Joan Oumari, Bassel Jradi or even Alex Melki. But the Cedars might be able to count on Kassem El Zein who is shining with Al Nasr in the Kuwait Premier League.
It will be the second game under the direction of Lebanon national team coach, Jamal Taha. The call-up list will be revealed soon. PCR time for our players!
Update: the PCR testing was cancelled, therefore, we think the game is called off
