Jana Assi: There’s no future here

The past few days have seen Lebanese football clubs take to social media to announce new signings in preparation for the upcoming leagues.

Safa FC, however, made use of the platform for a contrasting purpose; reporting the departure of their forward Jana Assi.

Assi’s exit from the club came as a result of her decision to leave the country, currently overrun by social and economic crises.

“It doesn’t have anything to do with Safa. I graduated and there’s no future in Lebanon.”

Her destination being France, she plans to continue her higher education in hopes of finding broader professional opportunities.

Assi has been involved numerously in the Lebanese football and futsal National Teams, as well as the women’s senior league. She most recently featured with Safa in the 2019-20 season of the senior league, scoring 5 goals.

However, whether she goes on to grace the leagues abroad is still undetermined.

“Being a French national, it’s all familiar here. I got tryouts in clubs and I’m waiting to see if I’ll continue playing.”

FA Lebanon wishes Jana the best in her future endeavors, and we hope to see her in the Lebanese football scene again.
