The battle for the final 6

The Lebanese Football Federation has decided to introduce a new system for the 2020-2021 season. The system of 22 games per team is over. The new system takes place in two phases:

  • In the first phase, each team plays 11 matches.
  • In the second phase, the 6 best teams play in a separate ranking, and the teams classified between the seventh place and the twelfth place will evolve in a separate ranking. Each team will play 5 matches. The Top

Final 6 will be important for three reasons:

  • Better exposure by playing against the best teams and having more chance to play under the cameras of the MTV channel.
  • The opportunity to finish in the top 2 of the league and to represent the Cedars at the AFC Cup 2022.

There are still three games left in the first phase. Mathematically, for the moment, no team is guaranteed to play in Final 6. However, it would take a cataclysm not to see in Final 6 the following teams: Nejmeh, Shabab Al Sahel and Ansar which each counted 18 points and Akhaa Ahli Aley which has 16 points.

The battle will be between Ahed (12 points), Bourj (10 points), Safa (10 points), Tripoli (9 points) and Shabab Al Bourj (8 points). These 5 clubs will fight for the two remaining places.

Ahed is in an ideal position because the competing champion will meet Salam Zgharta this Friday. While Shabab Al Bourj, Tripoli and Safa have very difficult matches against Akhaa Ahli Aley, Ansar and Shabab Al Sahel respectively; the yellow Bourj will meet the penultimate in the standings, Tadamon Sour, a team in full doubt.
